Leading from Legacy

Izaak Bedford attended Child Side from Playgroup all the way through to year 10 from 2010 to 2021.  After Child Side Izaak went to SEDA college for year 11 and 12.  He gained a Cert 11 in sports coaching and a cert 11 and 111 in sport and recreation.  He completed work experience at the Capel Golf Course in year 11 and in year 12 his work experience was with Michael Anderson Landscaping.  Both of these workplaces offered him apprenticeships.  He chose to do a Landscape Construction Appreniceship  with Michael Anderson as he saw more potential for growth.  He gained a trade certificate in Landscape Construction in 2 years rather than 3 and he has been in discussion with Michael about taking over the business or setting up his own.

Outside of study and work Izaak has been a very keen sportsman, involved in gymnastics playing cricket, golf and football.  Last week it was announced by the Donnybrook Football Club that Izaak has been selected as a coach for the 2027 season.

Donnybrook Football Club is excited to announce Izaak Bedford as our new Colts Coach in 2027.  Izaak played his Junior and Preston Thunder football for the club before advancing into our senior teams.  Izaak currently plays both League and Reserves, and this season won best player of the finals Reserves for the club.  We look forward to seeing him in his new role.

 

2nd November 2026

On the same day at the same awards, past Child Side Chinese Language teacher (through the Confucius Institute) Pan Pan, graduated as an Occupational Therapist.  Pan Pan found Karron in the crowd after the awards and thanked her for suggesting she investigate studying Occupational Therapy in a Collegiate Support Meeting while working at Child Side as she is now fully qualified and working as an OT for Enable in Bunbury.

At the Graduation Ceremony Georgie was awarded:

  • Dux of Manea College in 2026
  • Completion of Secondary Schooling with honours – straight A’s in every subject over the course of year 11 and 12
  • Highest Academic achiever ATAR in Literature
  • Highest Academic achiever ATAR in Media Studies
  • Highest Academic achiever ATAR in politics
  • The Leadership Award

Georgie has been offered a place at UWA studying philosophy, and she has also applied for a place at Melbourne University and will take a year of travel to decide what she wants to do.

At the Graduation Ceremony Gabi was awarded:

  • Completion of Secondary Schooling with Distinction
  • Highest Academic Achiever ATAR in Physical Education Studies
  • Student Services Core Values Award
  • 2027 Thrive Partnership Scholarship to Trinity Residential College

Gabi has been offered a place at Notre Dame University studying Physiotherapy in 2027.

At the Graduation Ceremony Leela was awarded:

  • Completion of Secondary Schooling with Merit
  • Highest Academic Achiever ATAR in Visual Arts

Leela is planning to complete an Arts qualification at TAFE that she started in year 10 at Child Side in 2027.

On the 4th September past Child Sider Tristan McDonald (2002-2018) graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Education (Secondary Education, (Health and Physical Education).  He was also recognised for being on the ‘Vice Chancellor’s List’ which is a prestigious academic honor awarded to the top one per cent of undergraduate students across all disciplines, campuses (Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai, Mauritius and Sri Lanka) and modes of study based on their semester results.
