there are several ways to get involVED to FEEL a PART OF THAT COMMUNITY.
Governing Council
The Governing Council (GC) takes a specific level of responsibility and interest in enabling the school to carry out its purpose and mission, as defined in the school’s constitution, a requirement of the school registration processes (Department of Education Services – Non-government Schools). GC members:
- have a legal and moral shared responsibility to ensure the health and sustainability of the school;
- make decisions on behalf of and act in the best interests of the school;
- enables the school (children, staff, and families) to create a welcoming educational culture for children and
- are responsible for strategic planning and management and checks and balances.
The GC meets monthly and is about the ‘big picture’ and is on a journey to intellectually nourish and support our community ensuring it is ethical, viable and educationally credible. The Chair of the GC liaises regularly with co-principals and assists them in the roles of following processes and informed decision making, including the grievance procedure and selecting and deploying staff.
Parents & Friends Group
The Parents and Friends (P&F) group enables parents who would like to contribute more to the school but can not afford to take on the level of commitment required for the Governing Council (GC), to do so. The primary aim of the P&F group is to:
- establish, prepare and coordinate fund raising activities both within and outside of your school community, and
- raise awareness about your school and educational vision at public events.
The P&F group is less formal than the GC and meetings occur as and when they are needed, with at least one gathering each term. There are many regular school events and fund raising activities that occur during the year, however the P&F group are always seeking out new ideas such as funding grants and publicity opportunities. Each member is free to use their imagination and ingenuity, and a very flexible yet coordinated approach is taken by the P&F group in helping to sustain your school.

Living Books
Child Side encourages parents, relatives or community members to share skills, knowledge and experience. This allows children to see real and authentic work connecting them to the outside world. For children these first hand encounters can inspire them far more than reading about it, watching it ‘virtually’ or just hypothesising about something.
The range of skills, knowledge and experience each of us possess is vast and varied, and by each contributing a little the breadth of exposure provided within your school can be enormous.

Child Side School has formed professional partnerships with like minded associations and individuals. We endeavour to work together and combine our knowledge and experience to gain the best possible outcomes for children.

Child Side School has partnered with Manea Senior College for many years.
Manea and Child Side share some commonalities in approach to education and how we view young learners.
Manea Senior College has historically been a pathway for Child Side students to go to for their senior education once graduated from Child Side.

Marie is an external Education Consultant who works with us on our curriculum plan management, curriculum auditing, NQS auditing and school quality and continuity and improvement plan, development, implementation and auditing.

Big Picture Education Australia (BPEA) is an independent network of schools and agencies, that Child Side School is a member of, which agree to collaborate in pursuit of a shared vision of establishing a new model of schooling focused on better meeting the needs of individual students.
